Classic Game Room HD – TUNNEL RUNNER for Atari 2600 review

Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of TUNNEL RUNNER for Atari 2600 VCS. Tunnel Runner is an amazing first person shooter style game without the guns… years before Doom, Castle Wolfenstein and Quake. From CBS Electronics this is a rare cartridge with RAM PLUS. In the fps style you run through mazes in search of a way out… is there a way out like in THX 1138??? Who can say, maybe you need to collect and play this classic arcade video game which is an amazing example of old school retro awesomeness. Run from the zots, collect keys and duck into transporters. Tunner Runner is worth collecting for your Atari 2600 video computer system console collection. Are you a retro gamer, into classic gaming? Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. Classic Game Room was the original classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999-2000, now on DVD. The HD series is reviewing PS3, PS2, Genesis, NES, Atari and Xbox 360. XBLA. videos review reviews show wii

Classic Game Room season 1 – 3/31/2000 It’s not every day that you get to bludgeon people with an 8 foot sword and watch their blood spray 20 feet into the air. It’s also not every day that mutant plant people come after you and try to rip you in half with tentacles and gouge out your eyes.. and then you get to cut them in half and mash your sword into their head! You get the idea. This is the perfect game for sociopaths who don’t want to leave their couch. Game Room reviewed Atari, NES, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast and Playstation… too bad they didn’t get to Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 or Wii.

  2. I love that old opening is so epic!! [CGR openning]

  3. I keep restarting the video to listen to remix. I kinda wish there was more a whole song.

  4. This was most likely that very first 3D game in the history….created in 1983…

  5. @Lupucillo button, button, button, button. did you forget already, its a pretty hard button combination

  6. Great. Now I need to eat cheese. Delicious cheese. This game looks really awesome.

I remember a place in this game on one of the “runs” where you came to a door, and as long as you stood there your score would increase rapidly until you moved.
It would only do it once, and you couldn’t stay very long before you were eaten.
This was my all time favorite Atari 2600 game, hands down!

  8. Was there a parody of this game on the homestarrunner website? Cause I remember playing a game where all you do is run down a tunnel and select a random answer and you occasionally dodge some random thing in the hallway and that was it. Played that game all the time I tried to see if there was an end but I always get bored and do something else.

dude, Mark deff pumps me up to break out some of my old atari games, makes the 360 seem like shit in comparison, lmfao

  10. What was the button combination to summon Wind Squid again?

  11. I like every generation of video games. From Magnavox Odyssey to the Current consoles 4 life!!!

  12. This game ate so much of my childhood. It remains to this day my favorite on the 2600.

  13. I’ve been around as long as the 2600 has. And I never knew about this game. I like seeing programming achievements rather than the latest HD visuals.

  14. @NWNisFUN >:3 well well well so u did a comment here?

  15. Hey Mark, thanks for the blast from the past. I remember, as a child, those sound effects soothing my ADHD driven mind. I loved the funky Atari 2600 music when I got near the monsters and it did give me that suspenseful feeling also. It’s too bad I didn’t understand the game very well; probably because we didn’t have the instructions. LOL, at the Logan’s run reference.

This game reminds me alot of this book i read called Maze Runner..Really the only difference between the two is that in the book theres a center courtyard where 50 teenagers live spending their life trying to get out of the maze, and that the monsters are called grievers..I recommend the book seriously it didnt take long to read and this game looks awesome.

  17. what’s the “thing” doing in 7:28 – 7:30?!

  18. JeremyFenech108

@JeremyFenech108 …and yes, your Tunnel Runner Remix ROCKS!!!

  19. JeremyFenech108

I love this game!!! It is my absolute favorite Atari classic! I just got out my old Atari and this was the first game I played! I memorized the first few runs, and knowing that the exit doors are always on the right side of the map was able to hit up Run 32 when I was a kid. Just a few days ago, I made it to Run 48!!! It get really hard when the walls are black, so ther eis no way to tell what door you are looking at. Not to mention the your progressive speed and that of the Zots!

  20. Amazingly good graphics in this for a 2600 game!

  21. The entire intro scared me a little :P

  22. I have an atari that i still play, im going to try anc pick up this game. When i was a kid the one i logged all my hours on was the origional nintendo. The Atari was my parents and then my big sisters. Brings back alot of memories to watch your classic reviews. Thanks alot for doing it because if not then i would have probably not touched my atari for many many years, concidering i have my ps3 with a huge cornacopia of amazing titles. Its always nice to go back to the classics.

  23. @apanapane The intro? WIth the red-eyed squirrel?

  24. @bittergamer1886 old games

  25. old games

  26. violentMarshmallow

    I love the fairy rant

  27. akumacornflakes

Well, you need to keep in mind that this review was made in 2000, and the Berzerk manga and anime weren’t available in the US until 2003 and 2002 respectively.

  28. Kinda reminds me of God of War. Like the reviews. I’ve ordered some of these old games.

  29. Swifttheslacker

    evil forces of ball sack

  30. I burned this game for my Dreamcast two nights ago, and I’ll agree, it is about 2/3s movie. My save didn’t work correctly, I had played about 2 or so hours. Whenever I got home I turned on the game, and got back to where I was by skipping all the cutscenes, in about..fifteen to twenty minutes. It’s pretty short. Also the large one horned black beast they fight, is hard as hell, trying to beat him right now actually. I wouldn’t recommend a buy, but definetly a download or a borrow.

  31. Lol. No one likes Puck. ^^;

  32. This game is awesome! I’m playing through it right now.

  33. Btw it’s Guts, but yes that would rock.

  34. I heard the AWESOME PS2 sequel will get a US port. Not sure it that’s true, but that game kept me busy for a long time.
Fifty bucks says Guts dies at the end of the manga!

  35. Reviewers should have watched the Anime or read the manga before they reviewed. :/

Still an alright review, corny jokes but spot on about the gameplay and whatnot.

  36. is it the same game?

  37. they should have put berserk in smash bros brawl insted of jiggaly puffs gay ass

  38. You are so right dooppooper they should have put him in brawl and killd gay ass jigglypuff he would have been soo cool

  39. KazuoKiriyama666

I don’t get the comparison to Fear Effect. :S

  40. KazuoKiriyama666

No he doesn’t; Cam Clarke, the voice of Puck the fairy, voices Liquid Snake in MGS, NOT Raiden. Raiden is voiced by Quinton Flynn!

  41. i only say this because they added sonic, but he shouldve been in smash bros brawl. the perfect ike counterpart.

  42. this review is pure shit

  43. You’ve obviously never played any of the Sonic Adventure games, and Megaman X7.

  44. game is good but it has the WORST camera angles EVER!

  45. Hokuto No Ken in japanese. A very good anime.

  46. If you really liked this game you should check out the Japanese version for the PS2. A lot better, just called Berserk

  47. lol the same guy who does the voice for the fair does the voice for raiden in the Metal gear series

  48. The game was fun, but the Character animations are a little too stiff, especially in the cutscenes.

  49. Whoa! dude at 9:00 looks pretty badass!
