Rv For Sale: Sell It The Easy Way
The day had come to put the family RV for sale. Putting up our family treasure was harder than any of us had expected. Over the past five years, we had grown attached to our cozy little travel trailer. Still, our family had grown and it was time to leave our travel trailer behind and move on to a full size motor home.
We learned so much selling our RV and wanted to pass on the things we learned.
Preparing the RV for Sale
When we first went to put our trailer up for sale, we thought it would be easy. After all, we loved the trailer and took great care of it. However, the first few people that looked at it didn’t have the same reaction. We had to take a closer look.
Turns out there were several “little things” wrong with our trailer. We were so used to them that we did not even think twice. However, we had to fix these quirks if we wanted someone else to buy it.
When selling your RV, check for the following things:
Do all the cabinets open and close easily? Do they stay closed?
Is the refrigerator as clean as possible?
Did you clean up stains on the sofa, bed, cabinets and sink?
Have you replaced burned out light bulbs?
Does all of the appliances work properly?
Where to Sell the RV
At first, we ran an ad in the local paper. It didn’t take long for us to realize this was not the best idea. We were constantly answering calls and questions about the RV. Then we had to take time out of our busy schedule to show the trailer (fully open). This all ended quickly when we saw our first “weirdo.”
It didn’t take us long to figure out that selling the trailer ourselves was not a good idea. We talked to some other RV owners and found out that we could sell our RV on consignment through a dealer. The dealer could sell our travel trailer for us without us having to do a thing. They would show the RV to potential buyers all from their own lot. This provided the additional benefit of attracting more customers.
It wasn’t too long after we decided to go with a dealer that our little travel trailer was sold and we climbed into our new motor home. If only we would have thought of it sooner, we could have been spared the trouble of trying to sell it ourselves.
