NES Deadly Towers Review

In this video I do an entire play through of the game Maniac Mansion for NES and do a running commentary all the way through. This was one of my favorite games and I would like to share the way I beat it with you. I am playing the game on the scummvm emulator, the emulator and rom conversion tool are available on the official scummvm website. This is part 1 of the 4 part video. Enjoy.

I used to love this game because of the challenge behind it. I only ever made it to the first tower boss though, completely by accident.. and didn’t win.
hey ProdigiousPoker I also beat this game, it wasn’t so bad but it was tough. I didn’t map out anything, though I agree the ending was so rewarding.

You’re hearing the music from Spark Mandrill’s stage in Megaman X for SNES. Almost all the tunes from the first 6 Megaman X games were badass.

I actually beat this game n 1987 after hour upon hour of playing, dying, mapping dungeons. Sigh, it was brutal but so rewarding when I finally beat it. The review left out how cool the bosses were. I also thought the tower music was really cool. Nice touch at the end of the review with the money-shot of the mountain man. A bit disturbing but good review!
i remember being a dumbass kid and buying this game in 1987 what a piece of $hit I mean real piece of $hit game. Still is.

looking at the date, and the fact that AVGN used fan feedback for that episode, it’s more likely that james used thee3nds line for the review
also, make it so you dont have to restart at the beginning, and maybe have swords do more damage if you throw them from further away. just a few changes would make a big difference.

i completely agree with you. i like deadly towers for its artistic and novelty value. i used to play it when i was young, although i found it maddening for the reasons you described.
it couldve been alot better if they changed the gameplay a bit.. like not starting off so weak, and not making the dungeons into insane maze traps.
a remake designed to be more playable could be pretty awesome.

The deluxe version of maniac mansion for pc looks pretty good but the original version looked very blocky.
on the pc this looks like shit but on the nes it looks good

I played this when I was 9 years old. and It was really fun. Also had this Gold tape of this game. don’t know if anyone knows? About the gold cartage
i play this game everyday a couple of times through. no, i am not pro. but that proofs that this game is awesome

Personally I never found exploiting glitches in a game fun.
if you use glitches you can beat the game using NO skills from specific characters. And you only need to pick up 8 items. all you need is glowing key card key and yellow key but yo grab other things along the way. and the code to inner lab door is 0000 IF you don’t fix he wires! and ring the doorbell before going into purple guys area the cutscene will freeze him. You could do this with 2 kids as well.

A neat note is that if you choose a musician, they can play the piano while others can’t. The choice of characters is important to do certain actions and to get certain endings.
Cool review. Every time I play this game I turn off their CD Players because it drives me crazy and I can’t think. And every time I beat the game I can only beat it by making the Meteor a star and giving him his own t.v. show. LOL! I can’t seem to win any other way. I never know which 2 characters to play as?
ha, i used to get scared for exactly the same reason. I never managed to complete it, (in DOTT)
At first when I tried playing this game I got scared of it because of getting caught by the Edisons. Now I love Weird Ed and have him by my side all the time!

i never relize when you get the sponge it’s like it was everytime here
you know what thx for the playthrough i almost did it but i forgot where the sponge is and apart of that the ”thing” in the underground to drain the water-i forgot to turn it off and…BOOOOOOOOM-
