this is a f**kn hard game…well, at least for a 10 yo boy…yeah, i played this when i was 10 (in japan of course). i never beated this game. i should try it soon again…

That game look Awesome dude. I have to find it. Have anyone ever tried or heard of Destiny of an Emperor. If you dont, give it a try, it is my personal favorite for the nes as RPG. WAY BETTER than dragon warrior and Final fantasy anyway. I would like to see what HVGN think of it.

Well i played and beat the game thanks to you and i just gotta say holy fucking shit….. I’ve been missing some cool shit, and the story is more brutal and fucked up than any silent hill or horror game EVER. No srsly it’s fucking SICK!

Great review, Derek. There’s only two games that have genuinely creeped me out. Those were Sweet Home and Snatcher. I ended up quitting Sweet Home, but watched the rest of it on Youtube. It’s a great RPG, but it’s deeply unsettling thanks to the story and the music. I also hate that Terminator looking bastard.
@Serp1313 Final Fantasy series have sucked since FF9 so I don’t even have any standards set for FF13. Only thing I know for sure about that game is that if they would’ve used that battle engine in FF14 there would have been possibly the best MMORPG ever made at this far. But no… Let’s take the only suitable battle system for FF MMO and wipe our arses with it. What a shame…
As for FF1, I kinda think they could’ve easily fixed that error if they would have just thought about it. FF3 FTW.

By today’s standards I agree with you, but in the 80′s this was still new technology and part of a new genre. People ate it up and liked the long battles. Have you played FF13 though? It’s garbage and the battles can take upward of 10 minutes just for normal mobs.
And in a non-realistic standpoint that I couldn’t mention earlier, the monsters dying add strategy too. It supports the player in knowing how many HP a monster has as to not waste an attack.
