It’s not a terrible review, it told me exactly what I wanted to know before buying a copy on ebay, the fact the game makes use of cheap progression tactics. I’ll probably still pick it up though, it’s Zelda! ^_^
Well put. This games map is stuck in my head since childhood. This game was great back when most people only got a game once every 6 months because you would spend the time to check every bush and bomb every wall. For gamers that don’t have that time this game won’t be very fun.
Well… I think the fact that the game had so many secrets in it and that nobody tells you even half of it within the game itself was a terrible mistake of the game designers. They actually make it a lot harder and even tedious, but the replay value comes out when you actually know what you can do and plan your strategies for beating enemies or dungeons.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Zelda 1, but everything about it was improved in its overhead sequels. I recently picked up the GBA port again and feel the original game is much more suited to the handheld platform these days, not only for the fact that its simple and short, but because its still such a discussion piece amongst gamers if you happen to see someone playing Zelda 1 on the bus or something. Zelda 1 is still a damn good game, but its legacy outlives its game design.
Yeah this is a good review. Because I never grew up with this game and played it in a time with Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and Wind Waker, I can’t stand playing this game. It’s just too old for most players to enjoy now considering that everything we love about games has changed; done a 180 degree turn.
Well, the legend of Zelda was the first game ever to have an open world, so the magers weren’t experienced enough to make a very original story.
The Story itself is written in the Manuel an is very easy: Ganon, the holder of the Triforce of Power, attacks Hyrule to get the Triforce of Wisedom, but Zelda, the holder of that Triforce, shatteres it into eight pieces and hides it all over Hyrule.
Link now has to get the Triforce of Wisedom to destroy Ganon and save Princess Zelda.
it’s really fun and all, but is there a story? you start, get a sword, beat bosses in dungeons, solve puzzles, and then you save beat ganon. could someone explain? (I’m playing this at school by the way xD I used all sorts of hacks so that the teachers can’t spot me xD I’m-a beat it at school )
I see what you mean when you say that this games didn’t “hold your hand”. There really are a LOT of secrets to this game that are virtually REQUIRED in order to beat it. Many of these secrets are not even hinted at by in game text, people, or otherwise.

compared to the early metroid games zelda is very generous in the information they give you
wow… ::teary eyed:: the memories..

This is just my own opinion.

This one of my favo games!! The game was a little hard and stuff but I had allot of fun playing this!
Its really worth playing !
Of course.
Its not lord of the Rings by any means, but for its time the story was very epic.
Well they did kinda good on the story, if you think about that was when they had to start from scratch..

I was only talking about this game… cuz I think the stories of Alttp, OoT, MM, WW, and TP are Very good! minish cap is good too I think.
i’m a huge zelda fan but yeah the stories aren’t anything special… wind wakers was interesting but not very deep
i like meaningless fields
gives the world more substance and it’s fun to ride your horse on them
well nes games dont really have stories, but there is some story in later games…damn i need hacks

Possibly the best-handled review of this game I’ve come across yet. Great job man.
Dude, this is the smartest review I’ve ever heard!
Great review…I was kinda surprised when you gave it a 8 though ^^
