One wonders just how starved for ideas a game company has to be to start drawing inspiration from postbellum-era American novels with social commentary and elements of slavery…and then somehow come out with a Super Mario Bros. clone as an end result. You may be shocked to realize that nearly NOTHING from the book makes the transition to the video game, save for the characters of Tom, Huck (Player 2), Injun Joe, the forest gnome who gives fellatios to Tom, and Becky Thatcher. The game starts with Tom falling asleep in class one morning and the ensuing adventure is all part of his dream. The object is to save Becky from Injun Joe, who, unsurprisingly, is misrepresented to a huge degree as a stereotypical Indian warrior. The majority of the game is set up as an action/platformer, Stage 2 being the only departure since it auto-scrolls from an overhead view. You start off with an unlimited supply of rocks at your disposal, which arc when you throw them. The arcing isn’t that much of a problem since many enemies are aerial and you can throw several rocks at a time, so you may even be able to take out two or three enemies at once. Sometimes you’ll find a slingshot powerup which shoots rapidly in a straight line so it’s good for most ground-level foes. As for the difficulty, it’s pretty easy once you learn the enemy patterns and how to get around the stage …

well i am sure i am one of the very few people who saw it in theaters. and i would be one of thought people who really did know who billy michel was but i loved this movie almost as much as i love classes video games by far my favorite documentary.

WOW! I just rented it and i just now saw it! THANK YOU SO MUCH for reviewing this because without your review, i may have never seen it. I love video games and Donkey Kong is the hardest machine i have ever played. I liked the characters too, Billy Mitchell- The Jerk and Steve Weibe- The nice guy that everybody cares about. The ending is pretty predictable but yet so great to watch. I loved this movie. 5 stars!

this game should get sued by nintendo,the leval at the begining is the airship from smb3,tom has the same clothes as mario,(exepy for the hat) and omg a starman at 1:18 and 4:12
it is mario… the flying octopuses are like bloopers, tom looks like mario,and holy crap the blocks with the heart on it are starmen.
I hate to double post and waste more time on this dreadful game, but the soundtrack is absolutely HORRID! The NES sound chip could make far better music than this piece of shit, just look at the original Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania series which came out roughly around the same time as this drivel. I love how the bosses sit there and take it. And level 3′s music makes me want to take a goddamn butterfly knife and slash my fucking ears off. Sorry for the rant.

I have a curse of buying old crappy NES games that are very hard like this one…well, I’ve played much more challenging games, but at first it’s tough. This game’s torture to play through, I hated it.
This is what happens when you give 8 year olds with ADD acess to crack cocaine and rittalin and tell them to make a game about a book they read a year ago

I loved this game back when I was a kid; it was one of the few we owned for the NES so it got played a ton. I remember so many of the levels and images, and trust me, as a kid the graphics I remembered looked so much more crisp than what the footage here shows. Sort of fascinating, but everything was familiar. Heh.
