Classic Game Room HD reviews a competition between two video game console powerhouses, the SEGA DREAMCAST vs. the MAGNAVOX ODYSSEY 2. Which gaming system is the winner, the Sega Dreamcast or the Magnavox Odyssey 2? Watch this detailed review and find out. The Sega Dreamcast is a popular game system that was released in North America in 1999. The Magnavox Odyssey 2 is a classic cartridge based game console released in 1978. In some ways these two game systems could not be more different… in some ways they could not be more alike. The Sega Dreamcast has Sonic, Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur and Chu Chu Rocket. The Magnavox Odyssey 2 has KC Munchkin, KC’s Krazy Chase, War of Nerves and Invaders from Hyperspace. Each game console costs about today, used, and games are readily available and frequently inexpensive. Sega is well known for the amazing array of arcade titles, machines and game consoles like the Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Megadrive, Game Gear and Sega Saturn. Magnavox is known for…. televisions. Maybe they made boom boxes too, and lots of other stuff. This is an interesting and entertaining look at two video game consoles with short life spans. It didn’t have to be that way, and it doesn’t. You can buy the Dreamcast, Odyssey 2 and stacks of games for a fraction of the price of a new PS3 or Xbox 360. Classic Game Room loves classic retro systems as much as the new ones, and this competition of Sega Dreamcast vs Magnavox Odyssey 2 is one of our finest …

Dreamcast… the legend will never die
my sis’s acc
lol omg sega rally is a driving arcade game in fundepot
dreams do come true with dreamcast and sonic advrnture :1
I’m surprised the Dreamcast was so short lived, considering there were some great games (Sonic Adventure 2 was awesome!), it had some unique features such as memory cards witch were little handheld video games themselves, superb graphics capabilities for the time, internet connectivity, I could go on and on! The Magnavox Odessy 2 was pretty good for its time too and shares a similar story.
@blitzvomitew16 i wish sega can make a comeback and xbox drops out. that would be a dream!
Comparing the incomparable. LOLOLOL
Lol!! 0:07 funny!!! Cool vid!! I want a dreamcast!!
i have a magnavox t.v.
Isn’t it weird that Mark does not have an Odyssey 1 even though it was the first video game system? SOMEONE DONATE HIM ONE! :O

“According to Bernie Stolar, former President and CEO of Sega of America, the Dreamcast was discontinued because the new chairman of Sega wanted the company to focus on software.” The dreamcast launched fine bro- it was even initially well received by a lot of people, but between the announcement of the Playstation 2 and a TERRIBAD advertising campaign- and that asshat who ran Sega of America’s decision to discontinue the console itself- it failed.
@lightlittlebrownboy Terrible advertising was certainly the case with the saturn but not so much with the dreamcast. Part of the reason why it did so bad was because of the lack of consumer confidence with sega. After the flop of the saturn, 32X and sega CD people just had little faith the DC would last, with good reason.
the odyssey has a gun that looks like a gun…wow ima go trick or treating with that!
@lightlittlebrownboy
Heh,though in Japan,the lucky bastards had games coming out the ass for dreamcast,they had it 1998-2006
@jballen90
I think he’s just butthurt that the dreamcast failed so hard that it had to blow independent developer’s just to get a game released for it after no one else cared.
@moreoreos123
Terrible advertising. Small library of games and many that never saw the light of day in North America.
@MisterNarutoo
No- see the Playstation actually succeeded from a business standpoint and destroyed all of its competition- which is the opposite of what you’re trying to say.
@DBZass
They played their cards right. Thats why their not just re-releasing Sonic Adventure every year like SEGA.
@lightlittlebrownboy
And furthermore- Sony is a company- SEGA is a company. They are all filled with liars- THAT MUST MAKE MONEY. Who cares if they promised fans anything? That’s incredibly stupid to believe that one company was more honest than another (or so far wrong lol I don’t even know where to begin with you). Listen SEGA was very mighty back in its day. It doesn’t need people defending it any more than Sony needs more fanboy’s. Point is- they failed. Sony still makes more money.
very dumb putting it in backwards
@jballen90 I saw that you said “me not being one of them” in the part where people thought the Saturn sucked.
i have a magnivox 2 and i love it
@classicrockrockz
It was poor marketing man. With those many early add ons and pointless peripherals coming out for consoles that were essentially obsolete by the time the Super Nintendo came out (blah blah BLAST PROCESSING). It was SEGA’s own fault that they pushed so many useless things right before the Saturn came out. Not to mention how disjointed Sega Of America was from Sega of Japan. They were practically polar opposites. Greedy stupid polar opposites.
@classicrockrockz did you not actually read my comment “ME NOT BEING ONE OF THEM”
@jballen90 It wasn’t stupid back then when DVDs were hundreds of dollars. It’s like the PS3 and the BluRay. But personally, I don’t get consoles for the pretty additions like DVD players and such. I want additions that add to gameplay experiences.
@lightlittlebrownboy You are so far wrong I don’t know where to begin. People started to turn on Sega because of the Genesis add-ons (The Saturn wasn’t helpful either). It’s not because they didn’t do what Sony did. Sony are full of liars. They hyped their console with lies and broken promises. As for gaming library, that’s more of an opinion. Sega didn’t add the DVD player because they were running out of time. The Saturn and the add ons are what bankrupted them.
Lmfao at the end XD
@faketrout rob was a marketing scam 2 fuckin games..and it sucked,,u dont need rob..so slow!!!..lol
rob was a marketing scam 2 fuckin games..and it sucked,,u dont need rob

I have a R.O.B. that powers on and moves when I power him on, but the LED light does not come on and it does not work properly because of this I am assuming. Does anyone know how to repair one?
you are nerf
I loved all of the ideas of having robots do everything in the 80′s. Reminds me of Maxx Steele.
I want to buy R.O.B. but he is expensive.
does it take C size batteries? all toys in the 80′s took C
Phil Bond……………. Caleb Goessling
Dude R.O.B. is so sick by 1986 standards. For the win dude!!
all really noising !!!!!!!!
i want rob for ds, like a little figure that reacts during certain games and controllable on a special function or something.
I want to make love to that thing
Seriously, if Nintendo made a new R.O.B. for Wii, I’d buy it even if it was expensive.
R.O.B. looks liek Johnny 5 from Short Circuit….then Wall-E
@daggereye89
AVGN: Boy, ROB brings back good memories, BUT WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING? THE CONTROLS ON THE GAME ARE SO BAD I’D RATHER FALL A STEAMING SHITPILE OF BULLSHIT, etc.
@carmanino Agreed.
@Theonegamefreak would be a cool hack or just make it!
@carmanino No, there is no ROB for the Wii.
