In the style of early 90′s side scrolling beat em ups, Tokyo Beat Down delivers solid gameplay, hysterical one liners and memorable characters (Plot Progressing Officer!). CGR thinks this is the “What’s Up, Tiger Lily” of videog games. It feels like an old school coin-op 2D side scroller but with a reworked English translation to make it hysterical. I don’t think that’s quite the case, but it feels like it, and it feels good. You can’t go wrong with this game. Sarcasm, dry humor, intelligent writing and straight up action packed gameplay. Tokyo Beat Down is one of the best games on the Nintendo DS and an instant classic. A must have. Classic Game Room approved. Mullets, cops, pimp tunes and power up hamburgers. Love it! Hey 8BitAwesome, with Tokyo Beatdown it is the wonderfully self aware that makes this a winner. The humour is up there with the best of Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, brilliantly spoofing 80s TV and poking fun at video games themselves. Perhaps this isn’t what you look for in your digital entertainment, but its high time more intelligent and funny content hit the shelves. The action maybe repetitive, but its only a short fight until the next wonderful round of words hits the screen.
Oh and it seems your saying this game is an average beat em up, but the story is what makes it good. Thats why im hesitant to buy this game. Ultimatly its the gameplay that matters

true with psp when i play wwe 2010 on psp tje loading times are long and the story mode sucks but on the ds version has no loading times and the gameplay and story mode is much better
@Airking11 applications don’t make a console. they make it a more versatile gadget, but games will be games, and that’s what i buy my gaming systems for. but i do agree psp is rather worthless. on-the-go-gaming with loading times longer than your average bus-drive… wrong.
but you don’t buy a FUCKING GAME MACHINE to check the weather, now, do we? and no ipod touch game can top a great psp game. gotta admit though, ds is best.
