Part 2 of 2. Review of the Sega Genesis STREET FIGHTER 2 vs. SNES STREET FIGHTER 2… Classic Game Room starts a war! A 16-bit conflict between the Super Nintendo video game console and the Sega Genesis video game system. Street Fighter 2 by Capcom is one of the greatest fighting games ever made and single handedly brought people back into the arcades in the early 1990’s to battle each other in this smooth, stylish 2D fighter. Although SNK and other companies had some fighting games out there, it was Street Fighter 2 that made the biggest splash. Consequently it was ported to the leading game consoles of the time, the Sega Genesis (or Sega Megadrive) and the Super Nintendo SNES. Although they are very similar on both game consoles, there are subtle differences between the two that are fun and interesting to point out in this informative head to head comparison review. Graphics are slightly difference, sound is very different and fortunately the gameplay is similar. Are you a Sega Mega Drive fanatic or an SNES fanboy… doesn’t matter. We can all agree that Street Fighter 2 is awesome and that we’re all waiting eagerly for Street Fighter 4 from Capcom. Will Street Fighter 4 see a revival on any Sega game consoles or the Nintendo Wii? Will is be the supreme fighting game on the PS3 Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 game platforms? Who can say, but this look at the 16 bit era is a lot of fun and Street Fighter 2 from Capcom gets a great review from Classic Game Room. Check the …

@Sephiroth3239 but the gameplay value is priceless
GAHHH I GOT RIPPED OFF! I payed $10 for these 2 combined lol
sega is more colorful
From what I’ve seen, I think if you could get the Genesis graphics, with the SNES sound, that would be the best option.
The definition of the Genesis version is nice, but the voice overs are very staticy, and I think the lower sounds of the SNES version sound better in my opinion, but that may be nostalgia stepping in..
Sega one is better in game play sega wins
Where’s champion edition for turbographx?
For my hand is small, the SNES is better.
how about playing street fighter 2 the movie the game is that better than watching street fighter 2 the movie
i have both consoles, but i prefer the SNES version.
if you’re into smoother graphics, more available color, and richer PCM sounds, then the SNES version is the superior choice. i’m more of a BG sounds type o’ guy, so the SNES version is my personal favorite. it improved on the arcade SFX and musical score.
GENESIS FTW
super nintendo is better hands down
Genesis games fit in the Super Nintendo, but Super Nintendo games will not fit in the Genesis. Therefore the Super Nintendo is a superior system.
I’d say Genesis version because it’s much faster and the sound is more in tune with the Arcade version. But the gameplay is still really good on both consoles and gameplay is what matters.
i liked them both but i thought vega only climbed the cage in the snes version
I’d perfer the SNES version but i’d pick up the gen version if i can find that… Luckily I own a 6 button controller
@youtoubakias
No, they’re different, not necessarily better. I much preferred the Genesis or CPS1 versions of certain themes over the SNES, especially Ken’s.
The super Nintendo verson has better music and a clearer voice
@youtoubakias that might be true but only the Genesis version is considered 1 of the greatest arcade sticks of all time
Arcade sticks was also created for the snes version, and it doesnt matter who created them first.
The fact is one, that the snes music is better in the snes even from the arcade
He hee realy?,i know that actualy they built tv’s with head phone jack as well.I dont know if the time that you were 10 years old was you have those tv’s.But serously this is not a reason to like the genesis version beter, you can tell that you liked beter the graficks or the speed.Because this was the strongest part in genesis,i like both versions. But the snes version was my favorite.I hope you can still listen after those horible sounds.
Well yes about the controls…..this particular controler of sega that you show us my friend was released after the lousy 3 buton controler because the people was surely complain after they see that sega actualy was using the start buton to change the kicks to punches! the two best controlers that i have use in my life was snes and play stations.
I liked the Megadrive/Genesis version better because the Megadrive had a headphone jack on it (back when TVs generally didn’t), so I was able to stay up late playing street fighter without waking my parents.
As a 10 year old kid, you better believe that was the best perk of any version.
I personally like the SNES version better. The sound on the Sega version is like nails on a chalkboard to me. It sounds like all the sounds are doubled over each other and really static-y. I also prefer the graphics of the SNES over the Sega version, but I could easily see others preferring the Sega on that count
I have both, as they are almost entirely different games.
The main advantage the Mega Drive has is the awesome Arcade Stick.
I finished the sheet music for this, who wants it? please don’t be a dunderhead and ensure you give me your email
i just got this game at amazon for ten bucks about a month ago. and holy crap this game is epic
I was in awe the first time i heard this as a kid, one of the all-time best dungeon tracks hands down
Holy shit this brings back memories
They sure don’t make games like they used to.
Oh the nostalgia……………
Well, the art style in the cover is more reminiscient of older anime IMO.
The newer anime heroes tend to look I guess “pretty” and fine boned, whereas older anime heroes tend to look powerful and muscular. Maxim’’s grandson looks like a man’s man, whereas Maxim looks like a gentleman duelist kind of guy. :p
it wasn’t until they made the ps1 and 64 is when they used anime boxart’s
that’s what i mean in the game they aren’t with muscle’s it’s kinda weird lol but it’s ok
Maxim’s descendant does look unusual for an anime character.
He’s powerfully built and muscular whereas many main characters in JRPG’s are lean and I guess looks a little more like teenagers.
@mariox901
they don’t look like giddy teenagers, if that’s what you mean by weird.
man Maxip(what i name’d Maxim’s descendant’s name) look’s kinda weird in the boxart so doe’s lufia T.T but i guess that’s the epicness of a NA Boxart look’s weird but still kinda pwn’s
Yah…plus Guy was very athletic so it makes sense for him to live so long…
This is the best midi ever!!!!!!!!
Just finished a piano arrangement of this, and it is awesome lol. Can also be used for jazz band, give me a shout if you want it. Also see mine for Xenogears, Wild Arms, Suikoden and FF Tactics
-I first played lufia 2 but i never played the first, my friend says that in the first one you play as the son of maxim who died along his wife in the second one, i dont know like i said i just played the second one.
Haha in the picture on the box “Includes Battery Backup System” Sadly mine has died and I can no longer save games onto the cartridge….BUT THATS OK!! EMULATORS!! Thank God those exist.
my first RPG as well. and i didn’t know that you actually need to ‘equip’ a weapon to use it. haha… god, i love this game.
The first music in the game you encounter. All I can stammer is “EPIC!!”
Working as intended as far as I can remember. Try hitting select..if nothing then yah. I kinda forgot sorry – I should confirm this in a few.
It’s a theory, stated in caps
I’d actually just base it off them being super beings as well like the mermaid princess said in Lufia II, but that just seemed like a more logical theory than Arty effecting Guy’s lifeline in any way.
Is it true there are no item descriptions in the game? When i press the X button to see spell descriptions it works, i get a text explaining the spell, but it doesnt work on items, is it supossed to be like this or is the ROM bugged?
I had this one bookmarked and now I know why. It is amazing how the great music manages to make up for the cloned plot even in the later games of the series.
First RPG I ever played…went to my local video store, saw this game, had NO idea what it is, picked it up….fell in love.
Hey operations1000, where did you learn about how Guy lived so long? Is that really true about the Sinistrals’ energy influencing Maxim’s team? That’s pretty interesting.
