#3 – Dancing Mad (pt.2) – Final Fantasy 6

Coming in at a staggering 17 minutes long, “Dancing Mad” is the pinnacle of SNES musical achievement. For the unfamiliar, this is the final boss theme of Final Fantasy 6, an epic fight where all 12 of your party members ascend up 3 “tiers” of lesser bosses before the fourth and final tier, Kefka himself. Similarly, the song itself is divided into 4 distinct tiers, and each plays during its corresponding boss fight. The eerily beautiful church organ combines with the haunting choir to create a perfect battle tune for fighting insane diabolical clown-gods. If you have not experienced this fight first hand, I suggest you do because it is one of the most memorable and most awesome video game moments ever. *Note, because of its length I had to split the song into 2 videos. This second part consists of the last two tiers.

  1. @piscespeter3 this music is actually the most complex boss music made yet.

    You know this right?

Even one winged angel is not on level with this,it is just so full of emotion.

  2. Chaos to Kefka: Sleep in emptiness, crooked clown.
Kefka to Chaos: The sweet scent of death! (P.S. “Zappo!” “You’ll be well done!” “Freeze!” “Did I get ‘im?”)
Anyway. Point is, this song was great in the original and was just as great on Dissidia. Kefka was also the funnest to play with/against.

  3. @TheRagCo Not going to argue with you, but that’s what I’ve heard from multiple people. I’ve never heard your theory before. Thanks for calling me an idiot by the way, really expresses your intelligence.

  4. @daarkbuu ummm, i think your an idiot cause first off its not jesus up there its kefka and the goddess, theyre all just messed up machinized versions of the 3 gods of magic, fiend, demon, and goddess, going up to kefka almighty insane god of magic

  5. @piscespeter3 Actually, the world did survive, it was still REALLY messed up though. In most other games it would probably return to normal. I have always thought Kefka was the best FF villain ever too, btw. = )

  7. First tier you fight satan, second tier you fight the embodiment of purgatory, third tier you fight Jesus and Mary and finally 4th tier Kefka. The most EPIC final battle in video game history. Suck it Sephiroth.

  8. @xXShinzouXx you have to think about it though;you had 3 other bosses to fight before kefka! thoses battles were atleast 20 minutes long! kefka could still wipe out your party.there is a hard type of ff6

  9. Yeah Kefka was defiantly an epic boss, he always twisted the story and pissed you off when you didn’t expect it and it always made you want to the kill the bastard but his ways always made you love him more and more

  10. @1gregre1 sounds distinctly similar to bachs toccatta and fugue. very nicely done

  11. @moonbal not true at all. I played it as a little kid when it was re-released for the playstation and I fell in love with it. I already had ff7 and this was still amazing to me. It doesn’t matter when you play it, at what age, or what system, people will always be able to recognize and enjoy the magic of a game like this to its full potential.

  12. Third tier definitely my favourite of the four.

  13. I’m glad I’ve had the chance to experience this game at release and enjoy all of its grandeur as the most perfect game at the time.
If you have never played this in its time, you’ll never be able to appreciate it fully…

  14. Lovin’ hearing Kefka’s theme used in the organ pedals for the opening organ part. So awesome. Bach would’ve appreciated it, I’m sure.

  15. dont get to here a whole lotta the music, particularly the final movement, when you have locke rockin the genji glove, offering, and two atma weapons. After only one blast from that kefkas a “goner” haha

  16. Sounds like he was inspired by Bach’s toccata and fugue

  17. all hail lord kefka!

  18. 3:20 chills CHILLS CHILLLLLLLSSS man when Square was moving to the ps they wanted to leave with a bang…..seriously best piece ever for a boss battle

  19. 5:20 soooooooooooo epic!

  20. Agreed.

The 3 tiers leading up to Kefka are all representative of the different ways that Kefka had perverted the power’s of the three Goddesses.

  21. In the fight itself, as each tier of followers is defeated, the screen rises (the party is more or less floating in the air by the time you reach the 2nd tier and onward). Kefka himself floats down once you reach the clouds.

  22. That too. That’s the reference, but I think the story logic is that the tiers are the three Goddesses made into Kefka’s image.

  23. The three tiers are reference to a poem called Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy. The bottom being the hell, the middle being purgatory, the top being heaven, and Kefka being God.

  24. Kefka doesn’t change. You fight the battle in four tiers, and Kefka is at the top (and only at the top). I think the lower three tiers are supposed to be the reincarnation of Fiend, Demon and Goddess.

  25. I don’t quite get the song. Is it one song and Kefka changes along with it or is it more like four different phases? Either way the song owns.
