16-Bit Gems #13: Star Trek – Next Generation [2/2] (Super Nintendo / Genesis)

Part 2 of 2. In this episode, Roo takes on not just an underappreciated game, but one that’s outright maligned. But is all the bad press this game has gotten just a misunderstanding? Perhaps all the public needs is the right info and a guiding hand to see the merits of Star Trek: TNG for SNES (Future’s Past) and Genesis/Mega Drive (Echoes from the Past). 1. I had this as a kid and recently picked it up about 25 SNES games at a garage sale for only… $20 This one one of them.

  2. Keep firing assholes!

  3. I love this game when I was a kid and the other day I saw a buddy of mine had it I asked if he had beat it and he said no.. I felt cool or as cool as you can be with beating a star trek game lol. Nice job on the reviews I am a fan…..

  4. Impressive presentation and video editing. Good job. However, the space combat in this Sega Genesis game looks like a poor Star Control II knockoff. Thumbs down for the game.

  5. I “AM” Locutus

  6. The Clown can stay.

But the Ferengi in the gorilla suit has to go.

  7. I rented this game once on the SNES… I could never get past the second mission, and then I couldn’t ever find it again. I really enjoyed it except that it was really hard. I couldn’t ever decide who to bring on away missions… I always thought it was silly that the main characters went on all the missions, so I brought as many red-shirts as I could. This of course, made it really hard. Also would have been nice if the other characters weren’t so vulnerable while I was controlling one.

  8. “insert witty phallic reference here” lol

  9. ah spaceballs, although I haven’t seen much of it, the parts I have seen where great.

  10. nostalgia attacks 2:21 and 4:03 , you know what to say and include a little too well!

I probably won’t pick this up (I’m not a big enough trekkie), but you outlined it very well.

  11. i never got into this game but now i am playing it again damn you roo … and damn romulans

  12. A minor point, but I know a few other video game magazine editors were also included as redshirts, including whoever served as editor at Game Players at the time. I don’t remember her name exactly but I do remember her writing a sidebar giving the game a perfect score for the obvious pandering.

  13. wooo, sweet review
